Nintendo is currently investigating the breaching of numerous Nintendo accounts. According to IGN, players have contacted the company claiming that they have received emails from the company stating that someone was attempting to log into their account. According to the reports, the hackers are based out in China as well as the United States.
Some of the accounts were successfully hacked which lead to the compromising of player's PayPal accounts that are linked together. The hackers later used those accounts to purchase Fortnite currency known as V-bucks. One victim of the breach lost $300 because of it.
IGN reached out to the company and was given the following statement, "We are aware of reports of unauthorized access to some Nintendo Accounts and we are investigating the situation." Additionally, Nintendo is pushing for those with an account to enable their two-factor authorization so a similar situation will not occur.
The past month has been great for the Switch as Animal Crossing: New Horizons smashed numerous records alongside the platform selling like hotcakes with the current quarantine in action. As of now, we do not know if the situation has been resolved, but just as a general suggestion, I would set up two-factor authorization for your Nintendo account as soon as you can.
